Scottish City Tours

EDINBURGH CITY AND BEYOND

Half day:-

We would start with the magnificent Edinburgh Castle which dominates the centre of the city then drive round Edinburgh to see its wonderful viewpoints such as Holyrood Park for photos/short walks as preferred. We would see the Old Town including the Palace of Holyroodhouse and the Scottish Parliament before proceeding to the New Town, round the beautiful Charlotte Square then going down to the historic port of Leith to see all the new developments and seafood restaurants.

With the inclusion of additional visits, this tour could be extended easily to a full day.

Full day:-

This would involve the content of the half day tour and could include a nearby attraction on the outskirts of Edinburgh such as the fascinating Rosslyn Chapel with its beautiful carvings (featured in “The Da Vinci Code”). A drive through South Queensferry to see the majestic bridges over the River Forth is another possibility followed by a visit to Hopetoun House (home of the Marquis of Linlithgowshire).

BEYOND EDINBURGH

Down the east coast from Edinburgh lies beautiful East Lothian, famous for its history, castles, gardens and golf. A full day tour could take in Inveresk Lodge Gardens, Direlton Castle and Gardens, the clifftop ruins of Tantallon Castle, and the picturesque Preston Mill. There is even a little distillery at Glenkinchie within easy travelling of Edinburgh where a tour and tasting can be found.

GLASGOW CITY TOUR AND BEYOND

Half day:-

Glasgow is a vibrant and beautiful Victorian city sitting on the River Clyde. Our tour would take in the main sites including George Square with its wonderful statues and City Chambers building. We would go out past Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum then to Glasgow University (founded 1451) where can be found the Hunterian Museum and Art Gallery and the Mackintosh House designed by the famous Glasgow architect, Charles Rennie Mackintosh and containing designs by him and his wife, Margaret Macdonald Mackintosh.

Other locations would include Glasgow Green and the People’s Palace and a visit would be scheduled to Glasgow Cathedral.

Full day:-

The tour could be extended to include more visits to some of the places mentioned above and also the Tenement House where you can see a typical Glasgow dwelling from over a century ago. Other visits could take us the outskirts of the city to see The Burrell Collection, the magnificent collection of artefacts of the millionaire shipowner, Sir William Burrell, gifted to the City of Glasgow and now housed in a purpose-built building in the parkland grounds of Pollok House which can also be visited.

BEYOND GLASGOW

Within an easy drive from Glasgow lie“the bonnie banks” of Loch Lomond, across which lies the Highland Boundary Fault separating Lowlands from Highlands. Loch Lomond lies in Scotland’s first National Park (Loch Lomond and the Trossachs). A boat trip could easily be arranged or a drive to the picturesque village of Luss with its pretty cottages, historic church and lochside setting. Loch Lomond Shores offers a shopping experience with a branch of Jenners and other outlets looking over the loch to view Ben Lomond, the spectacular mountain which overlooks the loch.

Some of the above could also be included in a tour of the Trossachs.  Please see our page on The Trossachs for more details.
